Louisville, KY – Female Pedestrian Loses Life in Crash on Dixie Highway

Louisville, KY (June 23, 2021) - A woman lost her life as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Jefferson County on a Monday evening. Just after 11 p.m., on June 21, the Louisville Metro Police Department responded to the scene of a serious pedestrian versus car accident on Dixie Highway.

Reports from authorities show that a drunk driver was trying to make an abrupt U-turn on the highway that resulted in an accident. A second vehicle then crashed into a ditch trying to avoid the vehicle occupied by the drunk driver.

After the first two accidents, a 50-year-old female who was passing through the area attempted to provide assistance at the scene. As the woman attempted to cross over the Highway to assist, she was struck by a vehicle. The woman sustained fatal injuries in the accident and was pronounced deceased by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.

The impaired driver was subsequently arrested. The 29-year-old man faces charges of DUI. At this time, the police are investigating to determine the cause of the crash.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the victim who lost her life in this accident.

Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Kentucky

Each year, over 80 pedestrians lose their lives in auto accidents across the state of Kentucky. Approximately 18% of these pedestrian accidents take place right here in Louisville. Traffic-related incidents continue to have a devastating impact on families in Jefferson County and throughout the entire state. Although we are routinely enacting laws to protect travelers passing throughout the state, we continue to see innocent victims injured and killed in crashes at an increasing rate. These collisions continue to increase in frequency and severity, leaving families to deal with the life-changing consequences.

According to statistics, over 80% of all traffic accidents are a result of driver negligence. When drivers drive impaired, speed, or engage in other reckless behaviors while operating their vehicles, they place others sharing the road at risk. Pedestrians are especially vulnerable to the impact of crashes due to the fact that they have minimal protection. As a result, people traveling on foot are more likely to lose their lives in wrecks involving speeding vehicles, SUVs, and commercial vehicles. When people lose their lives in traffic-related incidents, their families may have legal options available. Surviving relatives should reach out to a wrongful death attorney in Kentucky as soon as possible.
