What are Important Steps to Take if You’re in an Accident

  1. Take Pictures – Key evidence in presenting your case
    1. Your Car and their car
      1. Location of vehicles at end of collision, before they get moved
      2. Debris laying in the roadway
      3. Where you came from and were heading at the time of the collision
  1. Get Contact Information
    1. Other Driver – License, Insurance Card and Registration
    2. Other Diver’s Passengers
    3. Your Passengers
    4. Witnesses – Name and contact information
  1. Document EVERYTHING You Remember
    1. Time of Day
    2. Traffic Conditions
    3. Debris in the road prior to the accident
    4. Pedestrians/Animals in the area
  1. Seek Medical Treatment
    1. Keep a journal of your injuries and what you’re feeling
    2. Start the Medical Record
      1. ER or family doctor
      2. Urgent Care
      3. Chiropractor
  2. Do It in the 1st 24-48 hours
    1. Insurance companies will try to blame the injury on other issues
  3. Keep Off Social Media
    1. No public pictures or statements about how you’re feeling
    2. Insurance adjusters and lawyers will use those statements against you
  4. Personal Injury Protection “PIP coverage” ($10,000)
    1. You have insurance to get treatment
    2. This is called “no-fault” insurance
    3. PIP claims should not cause your insurance rates to increase
